NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — North Providence police arrested former New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler and charged him with driving under the influence of alcohol earlier this month, Target 12 has learned.
Police and court records show the recently retired NFL star was arrested March 16 and charged March 21 with one count of driving under the influence of liquor. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, according to court records.
Butler’s attorney, former R.I. House Speaker John Harwood, has filed a motion to dismiss or suppress the charge, arguing Butler said his constitutional rights under the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and 14th Amendments “were violated.”

PAWTUCKET – Restaurateur Mike Arena opened the Miss Lorraine Diner at the Lorraine Mills on Mineral Spring Avenue on Jan. 26, 2020.
“We were extremely busy to the point where people were out the door,” he told The Breeze.
Weeks later, the new diner shut down due to COVID’s arrival and resulting restrictions, and the Miss Lorraine has never seen those kinds of crowds again.
Arena said he sees a challenging landscape for restaurants to fight for survival in, one that isn’t going to get any easier with high prices of food and difficulty landing and keeping quality employees. The restaurant is often quite busy, said Arena, but he and others are finding that it takes more than that to profit from this business now.
